Loaded Pastrami and Swiss Sandwich

Recipe for an over-stuffed sandwich filled with pastrami, Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce, diced pickles, mayo and mustard on toasted Ciabatta rolls.

There's a fairly new gourmet market in my neighborhood and they specialize in beautiful, over-stuffed sandwiches. The menu is long and it's so hard to choose. But, you actually have plenty of time to make your choice because the line snakes around the block. Sigh.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich

Recipe for chicken, marinated in buttermilk, coated, fried and served on toasted bread.

I've been craving a fried chicken sandwich for weeks now. Not even kidding. But every time I look at take out menus I can't decide which to get. Some are just served on plain buns, some have no toppings, others don't come with coleslaw. I legit couldn't commit to a sandwich.

Crispy Chicken Tacos

Recipe for crispy chicken pieces, mixed greens and a creamy lemon dressing served in naan bread or a tortilla.

It might be a new year but we're still asking the same old question - what's for dinner? And, since we're still stuffed with Christmas cookies and cheese, can we make whatever the dinner is kind of light? Yup. I've got this.

Chicken Shawarma Tacos

Chicken tacos in flavorful shawarma sauce with tahini slaw.

One of the many, many reasons we all love tacos is how easy they are to prepare, right? Make a few simple things and set up a DIY taco station for family and friends to customize however they like.

Cauliflower Shawarma

Cauliflower roasted in shawarma spices and served with pita and tahini sauce.

My first experience with shawarma was on vacation on the beach in Tel Aviv, Israel. Food vendors were selling falafel and shawarma sandwiches along with cold beverages on that hot August day. I ordered falafel because it's my favorite street food and my sister-in-law, who was my beach buddy that afternoon, ordered shawarma. I'd never had it before but the aroma was intoxicating and I asked for a taste. Hooked!

Cheesy Meatloaf Sliders with Pickled Red Onion

Cheesy Meatloaf Sliders with Pickled Red Onion

Meatloaf is one of those recipes that I love as much the next day, as a leftover, as I do freshly made for dinner. It's one of my favorite comfort foods when served fresh with mashed potatoes and gravy (diners do this dish SO well) but it's equally amazing as a sandwich the next day.

Loaded Turkey Sandwich with Sweet and Spicy Mango Honey Sauce

Recipe for a thick turkey and vegetable sandwich, topped with a sauce of mango, honey, lemon and spices.

Is it back to school time where you are? Or do you just have a need for a good desk lunch, day in and day out because that's definitely the case for me. Either way, you've probably got sandwiches on repeat.

Smokey Black Bean Burgers

Recipe for black bean burgers flavored with coffee extract for a smoky flavor.

The other day I was looking through my refrigerator and cupboards and pulling out ingredients to make lunch. No particular plan. Just seeing what I have and what I could make with it. My own personal episode of Chopped?

Soup and Salad Wraps Dinner

Recipe for lettuce wraps filled with hummus, vegetables and feta cheese.

I think I've made it known in the past that I'm obsessed with soup in cold weather. And by cold weather, I mean starting right after Labor Day. And by "made it known" I mean multiple times per year going back forever. So, it's a soup-fest around here for most of the year.

Grilled Cumin Chicken Tacos with Guacamole and Pickled Red Cabbage

Recipe for tacos made with cumin grilled chicken, guacamole and pickled cabbage.

I know "taco Tuesday" is a thing and today is not Tuesday. But, when faced with a great taco idea, I see absolutely no logic to waiting. My normal market only carries white flour tortillas but I was shopping at a different location and saw the corn ones. Instant inspiration and tacos coming right up!

Cobb Salad Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Recipe for a grilled cheese sandwich with chicken avocado, tomato, bacon and blue cheese.

Did you know that April is National Grilled Cheese Month? I'm sure I celebrate this holiday way more often than just one month a year but I'm going to roll with it. Because there are very few things more comforting than toasted bread with piles of gooey cheese, right?

Curried Chickpea and Hummus Sandwich

Curried Chickpea and Hummus Sandwich

Happy National Hummus Day! Yes, there is such a thing and well there should be because I love hummus. My parents lived in Israel for a few years and they brought back a life-long love of Middle Eastern cuisine. So I grew up with tahini, falafel and massive doses of hummus. And as an adult on my own nothing's changed. My fridge looks a whole lot like theirs did, complete with many tubs of Sabra hummus.

Turkey and Swiss Stuffed Sammie

Turkey and Swiss Stuffed Sammie

We're back!  Did you miss us?  Nah, I left you in very good hands and I see that Kim B., Stacy and Kim W. brought you some delicious options.  Brian and I are still in vacation recovery mode today.  It's so much fun to go away but nice to come back home.  Um...OK, I'm totally lying.  I came back kicking and screaming.  And this morning, instead of relaxing in my chaise by the water, I have to work, unpack and do laundry.  What's so nice about that?

Roasted Beet and Herbed Goat Cheese Sandwich

Roasted Beet and Herbed Goat Cheese Sandwich

The combination of roasted beets and goat cheese is pretty common and definitely one of my favorites.  I use those ingredients frequently in salads and also tend to order it when I see it on a restaurant menu.  But it never occurred to me to make a sandwich out of it until now.

Cheddar Apple Pie Grilled Cheese

Cheddar Apple Pie Grilled Cheese

Since April is National Grilled Cheese Month, I figured it was time I shared one of my favorite grilled cheese recipes with you.  Of course, it's more of an idea than an actual recipe since I'm assuming everyone knows how to put cheese on bread and toast it up.  It's the "extras" though, that make each version unique.  Tomatoes and avocados are popular additions and I certainly have no objection to a couple of slices of bacon.  But, since I'm usually trying to keep it on the leaner side, I tend to stick to this version more than any other.
